All Train Zen personal coaching is done with Joe Prusaitis and/or Ryan Sederholm. If you're looking for an intensive and collaborative approach to training, not just a one and done conversation and training spreadsheet, then you'll appreciate our coaching style.
We will customize a training plan oriented around your goals, whether that's a race, distance, or speed. Included and expected as part of your training are regular conversations by phone, email or in person with Joe or Ryan to make sure your training is proceeding as intended. We do not have or believe in generic race plans, nor do we recommend trying to work off your buddy's plan. You can maximize your chances for success by working with a plan that adapts to your body, skills, and schedule. With your input and feedback, we will craft a plan that fits you where you are right now, and make adjustments as necessary while we are working together.
You are encouraged to attend weekly group trail runs if you are in the Austin area, though we have successfully coached many runners remotely via phone calls and email. Request a complimentary consult or sign up to get started.
Life is full of surprises. The schedule should adjust to your life... and not the other way around.
We will talk about what you need to do and together we will work out what, where, and how you dial in the workouts, distances, times, and schedules. This will depend on what you are training for, what distance, what sort of terrain, flat or hilly, etc. Basically, we figure out how to turn your own personal playground into the right set of training courses.
We knows a fair bit about all of the above. Joe has run Hardrock, Badwater, 24hr, 48hr, and tons of other races, so he can provide solid advice for a wide variety of challenges. Ryan is well versed with most of the Texas races, and much of this applies well elsewhere
Absolutely, yes. It makes sense to adjust the training plan around other races. Also, many of your own life events and occasions will need to be planned around.
We start with a complimentary initial consultation, which is just a discussion (phone/email/in-person) about why you are interested in personal coaching. We will also tell you a bit about our training philosophy, and you can determine if it's a good fit.
Request a consult to get started.
We start with a training plan based around a long run build-up usually over a sequence of weekends. Once we dial in the weekend buildup, then we discuss your mid-week schedule. Once we have a base schedule, then we fill in the details. Still, all of this is not written in stone. It evolves as you go.
Communication is crucial to your success. We need to understand each other, and you need to understand your training plan. So we both need to talk to each other directly and honestly. You have to tell us whats going on, what you're doing, any issues, conflicts, changes in plans, and so on. Joe will provide honest feedback and make adjustments based on how you respond to each workout.
We have groups starting up at odd intervals each year, depending on what becomes the latest event of choice. This is typically dependent on the desires of the people running in our training group. We are always open to a training plan for a specific event, but this is chosen by those who have our ear: so all you have to do us tug on my ear. What are you interested in? Which event do you want to run? If we can get a group interested in a race, it becomes a group training plan. Otherwise, its going to be Personal Training.
